Planning exercise

default-16x9

I would like a short exercise (max length one hour) that will bring out the key message that time spent planning is time well spent. Can anyone help with any ideas?
Thanks

  1. Games
    Hi Kathey,
There’s a couple of problem games that you could get them to act out. Missionaries and Cannibals (need to get all the missionaries and cannibals across a river but there are rules as to how it can be done), or the Jealouse Husbands (slightly harder). They are problems that need to analysed for their underlying structures and laws and thus require planning time. they can be done simply as problems but you can add a frisson of action into it by making them play the various parts.
Contact me if you want the details.

  2. the blindfolded rope square
This is a fairly common exercise that makes the point, it can be done with as few as five people and as many as 25. You can also amend it to bring in aspects such as multi team projects and sequential actions. If you aren’t familiar with it give me a call and I can send you the instructions I use ([email protected])

  3. Share with everyone please
I’d love to understand these more and the point of the forum is to share, can I remind the previous two posters of the rules of the site.

“postings which ask the questioner to simply contact offline, without providing helpful information on the forum itself will be removed”

Lets help each other to grow in knowledge.

  4. Response to Mark’s point
    Hi Mark,
I would be happy to share these with anyone but to post them in this format would take up a massive amount of space, and since I would probably need to also send a bit-map, it all seems very unwieldly.
I have previously asked people to contact me for such info for the same reasons. I also do this because if the originator of the message isn’t interested I needn’t spend an hour or more sorting it out. If anyone else contacts me I will happily sort it out and send it to them as well.
I assume we are all sharing and networking to widen our understanding, any alterior motives I am sure are obvious.
    Regards,
    Nigel
