Project managers want more management training, finds survey

default-16x9

According to a survey of project managers by Learning Tree International, almost 90% felt they would benefit from management training, in comparison to just 13% who stated that technical training would be beneficial to their role.

The survey suggests a mismatch between the challenges faced and training given to project managers. More than half of those questioned considered people management to be one of the biggest challenges of their role, yet only 21% had received management training prior to taking on a project management position.

The figures suggest that companies place their faith in technical expertise, neglecting the overwhelming need for managerial experience and knowledge.

This follows recent research which indicated that IT managers tend to get little or no management training.
