copyright on 1957 film

Same as a 2007 film – you need the copyright holders permission. Plus you need to hold PRS etc..
Public Domain Movies
You can find some public domain movie clips that might be useful here http://www.pdcomedy.com/ – as the name implies, they are funny clips.
I think several of these could be used to good effect.
